Professor Emílio Lèbre La Rovere, from the Centro Clima Institute at COPPE/UFRJ, is one of the experts invited to the documentary series "Climate Urgency, Ten Years to Act – Promises and Realities of the Paris Agreement," produced by the newspaper La Croix in partnership with the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI). The production, launched on 23 October, marks the tenth anniversary of the Paris Agreement and is available on all podcast platforms.
Recorded in Paris during Professor Emílio's visit to the French capital in June, the interview is featured in several episodes of the series, which seeks to critically assess global climate action since 2015. Throughout eight episodes, the podcast brings together the voices of experts, economists, activists, and public policy makers to discuss the progress, challenges, and perspectives of the environmental agenda.
The series revisits the impact of the Paris Agreement, which was adopted on December 12, 2015, by 195 countries, and reflects on what has been achieved and what still needs to be done in the face of the growing climate urgency. The discussions cover topics such as changes in lifestyles and consumption patterns, economic transformations, public policies, and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
With the support of RFI (Radio France Internationale), which provided part of its sound archives, the production aims for an educational and accessible approach, inviting the public to rethink ecology as an opportunity for social transformation and not just as an imposition.
The initiative gains special relevance this year as Brazil hosted COP30, reinforcing the country's role in international negotiations on climate and sustainable development.
